I decided to post another couple photos from our Banff get away cause it was quite the adventure. Because of the thick snow fall it took us almost 3hrs to get there. As we were turning off the highway into Banff we saw this guy. He goes by Crazy Larry. And to be out in that weather you'd have to be slightly mad.

this winter seems to be unusually warm and dry. in contrast I took the photo on the right roughly a year ago and there was so much snow they had to clear the roads to the point of having to pile it on the side of the road 5 times the height of my friend. whether it is global warming or changing weather patterns it is definitely strange. i just hope it doesn't mean we are going to have a late and drawn out winter.

I was completely off the grid last week, hence no blog posts. I was in a beautiful rustic cabin in Cypress Hills, Saskatchewan. Although it was nice not having the distraction of internet and phone service, it was tough to be away from my darlin for so long without contact. Gabe and Dave are two super great guys that I got to hang out with and I will have to blog more about in the future, as I am still processing out our crazy adventure together.

Obviously I LOVE to photograph my darlin, but if there were to be a #2 or runner up it would have to be Liv. If you've looked at my website you would recognize Liv. It's rare but so good when Lyss and I can take some time to grab some R&R and even then I have to grab my camera to document it. I mentioned last post that I have made quite a few trips down to Medicine Hat this summer. I thought since the next time I make it down will be after my sister has her baby I better take some photos. For me the time has gone by so fast, but it has been great watching my sister grow and change throughout the whole experience. Seeing how she has handled it all so well I am confident that she is going to be a great mother. And a good looking one at that. Check out how great she looks in the photos below. I also did some detail shots of her nursery. Unfortunately 'dad' was sick and couldn't join us for photos. I'm really looking forward to meeting the new addition to the family and taking some cute newborn baby photos. And I'll make sure to get 'dad' in some.

I read an interesting blog post by photographer Chase Jarvis titled: 'Is Inspiration Killing Creativity.' You can read it here. And I am guilty of this for sure. And I've been so wrapped up in it that I have forgotten about you and this blog. So for that I apologize. If you don't know I was born and raised in Medicine Hat and this summer I've been there a lot. I just spent the last three weekends there and was there before Lyss and I went to Edmonton which I blogged about here. I've been busy but I feel energized. Lately I've been working on some fun projects and reshaping my business. Hopefully I'll be able to fill you in soon. I am also trying to figure out how to use this space better. And I think in the future I will be using it more diary style. Until then check out my beautiful wife in her new hat. If all goes well this weekend I will have a nice treat for you next week.

A Folking Good Time

Since I moved to Calgary in 2007 Alyssa and I have been going to the Calgary Folk Music Festival along with family and friends. Last year I went photo crazy at the Folkfest and posted a lot on Facebook. You can see them here and here. This time around I made a video to give you a tiny glance into our time at Folkfest this year. Some of our highlights came from acts we knew of and were anticipating like Stars, The Avett Brothers, The Swell Season, Michael Franti, and St. Vincent, but like every year there were artists we didn't know of that really made it special such as Man Man, Dan Mangan, Dj Logic, and Honeybear. Definitely check them out and seriously consider coming out next year. The song from the video is 'Actor Out Of Work' by the super talented St. Vincent. Check out the video HERE. Datecation in Edmonton

So I've changed my blog up a bit because of work load and time commitment I wasn't able to fulfill my intended daily blogging. But I will still continue to post photos of my lovely wife. I was away for a considerable amount of time so Lyss and I decided it to get away ourselves to get some US time in. And we had a blast. The following shots are from our weekend away.

Varscona Hotel
After shopping at West Ed we checked into our hotel on Whyte Ave

Nokomis Clothing
This shot is of the front entrance of the building where Nokomis Clothing is on Whyte Ave. It is a cool store and it has a safe so that makes it cooler.

After traversing the shops and art walk that was happening on Whyte Ave we went back to our hotel for a complimentary wine tasting.

Even though she looked soo great, Lyss wasn't feeling her outfit for our night out.

One last mirror check and photo sesh before heading out.

We had a lengthy walk to the restaurant so we were thankful the weather was so great.

Culina Mill Creek We ate at Culina which is located just off the corner of 99 street and 89 avenue. I could say that it was good, but I will just show you. It was delicious though.

We started with Fried Calamari in sweet coconut curry sauce.

Lyss had PHYLLO WRAPPED GOAT CHEESE and chana dahl with tomato chutney and sauteed green beans for her entree.

And I had the BROME LAKE DUCK BREAST on roasted local potatoes in a white balsamic and cherry reduction.

Art Gallery of Alberta The next day we went downtown to check out the new Art Gallery of Alberta designed by Randall Stout Architects, Inc.. We didn't have enough time to go to any exhibits, but the building is definitely worth checking out.

Can't wait for our next datecation. Maybe small town Alberta next. Any suggestions?

So this last Friday I started my day by tagging along with my mother-in-law as she was collecting donated teddy bears from the Stampede grounds. I have never been, so I thought it might be interesting to get in there and take some photos before the general public littered the grounds.
